▷ this work is done by students in a mid-level computer-aided design course
▷ the courses’ emphasis is on design principles and visual communication fundamentals with a concentration on print graphics
▷ the class utilizes a variety of projects to introduce the technical aspects of the graphic design field as well as focusing on developing the working methodology necessary for good design
▷ covering the fundamentals of package design, both graphically and structurally, this project is initiated by the student selecting a poorly designed existing package with the requirement of describing the graphic and structural problems of the package through an in-class presentation
▷ emphasis is then placed on developing a strong conceptual direction for all aspects of the redesign, with illustrator’s 3-d rendering capabilities employed to develop a realistic representation of the redesigned package’s structure and look
▷ chosen over other, more complex, 3-d rendering applications, illustrator is used for its familiar interface and ease of use, allowing focus to be placed on idea development along with technological tools
▷ rendering techniques and illustration strategies are covered to assist the student in producing a refined illustration for the presentation layout (shown here)
