\u25b7\u00a0<\/span>born and raised in minnesota, kareken has spent many years pursuing his passions
\n\u25b7\u00a0<\/span>in addition to his artistic and educational careers, he has been a professional dancer and theater performer, a rock and roll drummer, and also spent a great deal of time exploring the natural world as an avid outdoor enthusiast and professional river guide
\n\u25b7\u00a0<\/span>his travels have taken him from north of the arctic circle to the lower reaches of south america\u2026 across the globe to the himalayas and into the jungles of central america
\n\u25b7 joy,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>his wife and partner of 23 years, has been a companion on many of these adventures, and now they and their twelve year old son zachary spend as much time as school and careers allow plying the rivers of north carolina and the lakes of northern minnesota
\n\u25b7\u00a0<\/span>in addition to his love of the outdoors, kareken is also an avid martial artist
\n\u25b7\u00a0<\/span>with a practice spanning the last 12 years, he has earned a 1st<\/sup> black belt in okinawan kempo and will soon be testing for his 3rd<\/sup> degree in tae kwan do
\n\u25b7\u00a0<\/span>in addition to \u00a0karate, he trains in danzan-ry\u016b jujitsu and mixed martial arts<\/span><\/p>\n
